Making spatial data clear, useful, and shareable
I help organizations turn complex spatial data into insight, understanding, and communication.
Most groups I work with aren’t short on data — they’re short on time, clarity, and ways to share results with others. My work focuses on bridging that gap, from analysis through to clear, usable outputs.
Hi, I’m Dave
I’m a geospatial analyst and cartographer with a background in geography and GIS, and a strong interest in conservation, environmental data, and spatial storytelling.
I work best on projects where data is messy, questions are open-ended, and the end goal is understanding rather than just technical output.
How I approach projects
I focus on work that is:
Clear — results that can be explained to non-technical audiences
Reusable — analyses and tools that don’t need to be rebuilt from scratch
Transparent — methods that make sense and can be revisited later
Well-designed — maps and visuals that communicate without oversimplifying
That mindset shapes everything I build, from analysis workflows to final maps.
A practical, tool-agnostic approach
I work across ArcGIS, QGIS, and open-source tools, choosing approaches that fit the project and the organization rather than forcing a specific platform.
The emphasis is always on long-term usability, not vendor lock-in.
Let’s talk
I work with organizations in volunteer, contract, or hybrid roles.
If you have spatial data that feels difficult to work with, difficult to explain, or difficult to share, I’m happy to talk through what might be possible.
